The Spike Surplus Scheme, based at 39b Consort Road, Peckham, is a community creative centre on the site of the notorious old poorhouse. The Scheme is having an open day on Sunday 15 June to showcase its activities. Local bands rehearse and record onsite, there is a well-being clinic and a community garden.
The Open Day starts at 2pm until 9pm and all are welcome to come.
Southwark Council is threatening to close Spike Surplus and sell the property for industrial use. The historical significance of the old Spike (George Orwell mentions it in Down and Out in Paris and London) and its value to the local community is lost on the current administration, but where have we heard that before?
If you don’t want to lose the Spike, sign the online petition and help save this vibrant local resource.
